One Week Until Wine Sales Begin At Tyler Winery

A week from Wednesday, people in Tyler will be able to do something they haven't been able to do for decades -- buy bottles of wine and take them home.

K-E Cellars opens next Wednesday in Tyler's French Quarter Shopping Center. Customers will be able to taste more than 100 kinds of wines from all over the state.

Owner Pierre de Wet, who also owns the Kiepersol Estates winery near Bullard says the reception, so far, has been positive.

The sale of alcohol in a dry county is, of course, a hotly-debated topic.  And while Smith County remains dry, state lawmakers last year legalized the sale of wine in dry areas, so long as the wine is bottled in the state, and is made from at least 75 percent Texas grapes.
