Trial Begins For Former Troup Police Chief

Once, he was enforcing the law.  Now, he's on the other side of it.

The bench trial started this evening in the case of former Troup Police Chief Chester Kennedy. He's charged with four counts of tampering with evidence, for things like allegedly concealing a 30 pack of beer in a liquor violation case.

He's also facing a theft charge for allegedly stealing a handgun from the Mayor of Troup.

There were no opening statements from the prosecution. Kennedy's lawyer told the judge they won't dispute much of the evidence.

Rather, they will argue it was mismanagement and poor decision-making on Kennedy's part, rather than criminal acts.
