Newsweek Poll Finds Bush Approval Rating At New Low

President Bush's job approval rating has slumped to a new low in the latest poll by Newsweek.

The magazine's survey puts it at 31 percent. That's five points worse than the lowest rating for his predecessor, Bill Clinton, but is two points better than his father's worst ranking, 29 percent. The vast majority, 85 percent, cite Iraq as the major reason they disapprove

The survey was conducted last Thursday and Friday, after the Republican Party's loss in the congressional elections.

Still, the news is not all good for the Democrats. Just about everyone thinks last week's elections were lost by the Republicans rather than won by the Democrats.

Most people also doubt Bush will be able to get much done during the final two years of his term. Fewer than a-third think he'll be effective.
