Vietnam Monument Dedicated In Tyler

A new monument in downtown Tyler was unveiled this Veterans Day, to remember those killed in the Vietnam War.   Veterans and those showing respect attended a dedication ceremony Saturday afternoon for the Vietnam War monument.

The Smith County Chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America started collecting donations last year and say it wanted to dedicate the monument on the day when all veterans will be remembered.

"It's closure," said Smith County Chapter of Vietnam Veterans of America President Robbie Robertson. "It's also I think a good place for people to just come and sit and reflect, either there lost loved ones or just reflect on the hard times a lot of us had back then."

There are 44 names on the Vietnam monument: 42 of them are KIA's or killed in action. Two of them are names of men missing in action.
