City Knocks Down Abandoned Homes

The city of Tyler is helping to clean up a neighborhood. Four abandoned homes in northwest Tyler were demolished today. The owners agreed to let the city knock the buildings down, at no cost to them. The demolitions were part of a program called N.E.W., which stands for neighborhood empowerment work.

"We're proud to have these in our districts," said City of Tyler District 2 Councilman  Donald Sanders.  "This has been needed for a long time and I'm glad that we are able to do such a project and help sprucing up of the neighborhood."

Eight more demolitions are planned in the coming week. Students from Stewart Middle School and the Boys and Girls Club are scheduled to come out and help remove some of the debris this weekend.
