East Texas Woman Sits With The Stars At CMA Awards

She's been going to the CMA Awards since 1988, and through the years Jan Barton of Tyler has sat in many different seats.   She has a job that has put her right in the spotlight.

"Garth Brooks, Vince Gill, Martina McBride," said Jan Barton, seat filler for CMA. The list goes on and on of counrty music stars, Barton of Tyler has met at the CMA Awards.   Jan is a seat filler, someone who takes the place of a singer performing or receiving an award.   She says she's been going to the award ceremony for years, sitting way up in the balcony, but in 1994 Jan met a man who had an offer she just couldn't pass up.

"He said I can get you better seats, but there's a little catch and we said well what, well I'm in charge of seat fillers and I'm like that's for real," said Barton. It's real, and she has video to prove it.

"One time you could see my hand and someone recognized my ring and was like there's Jan and it was," said Barton. Barton has sat in many different seats, and her best was the front row.

"In Alan Jackson's front seat, just right in front of the stage," said Barton. "It's kind of too close really. You're like oh my gosh." Next week, Jan heads to Nashville for the 40th CMA Award Ceremony.  This year she says she has one goal.

"I've never met George Strait," said Barton. "I'd really like to meet him. I'm hoping since he's going in the hall of fame." She's had good luck in the past.  All you have to do is look at all her pictures.

In less than two weeks the CMA's will be shown on KLTV. That's Monday, Novemer 6th at 7:00 p.m. Barton says she's not sure what she'll be wearing, but look for the red hair. That's how you'll most likely spot her.
