Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain has dethroned Elvis Presley as the king of earnings among dead celebrities, according to the sixth annual Forbes.com ranking.
From October 2005 and October 2006, Cobain earned $50m, compared to Presley's earnings of $42m.
The list has been published for the last six years and Forbes.com bases its totals on licensing deals for using the deceased celebrities' work or image in advertising.
The Web site said Cobain made the list thanks to his widow, Courtney Love, who sold a 25 percent stake in Nirvana's song catalog. Scientist Albert Einstein also is new to the list this year.
Presley held the top spot until this year.
