Smith County Commissioners Briefed On Goodyear Package

The Tyler Economic Development Council is asking Smith County commissioners to nominate Goodyear as an "enterprise project".  That would make the company eligible for state sales tax refunds on some taxable purchases.  The process is part of an effort to keep the Goodyear plant in Tyler open.

"It's part of the original package we sent out. We had it in there from the beginning as a proposal. So the $1.8 million is part of the original $12 million package, which now we've been able to expand to $20 million with some additional state incentives," said Tyler Economic Development Council President Tom Mullins.

The development council would submit the application if Goodyear decides to keep the Tyler plant open. A public hearing is set to take place on November 6th.
