Smith County Jail Inmate Targeted In Murder-For-Hire

The story begins behind bars at the Smith County Jail where a man police have asked us not to identify was being held.

That man was set to testify in a drug case against 36 year old Johnathan Toliver of Smith County.

Don Martin with the Tyler Police Department says, "He [Toliver] was able orchestrate within the jail, a plot to have this person murdered.  Part of that plot was to have him bonded out of jail. Then, he would be murdered after that."

Police say two other suspects were told to bond the victim out of jail. Then, according to court documents,  Johnathan Brown and Jessie Jackson, both of Tyler, were to keep him in town until the murder.

Now, they both face charges for conspiring to commit capital murder.

Police say they are still looking for a fourth suspect, Aldene Dunning. She's the mother of Johnathan Toliver, who allegedly paid one of the suspects bail.

Police say they tried to question her at work on Friday, but didn't have any luck.

"She failed to report to work, knowing that the investigators were waiting on her," says Martin.

Police say Dunning is driving a 2000 White Cadillac Deville with the license plate number H58 HNY. If you have any information on her whereabouts, please call the Tyler Police.

Police say there could be more arrests in this ongoing investigation. If the suspects in the case are convicted, police say they could spend the rest of their lives behind bars; the very place the alleged plot began taking shape.
