Highway 80 Sale Hits The Road

It's a garage sale that stretches 400 miles, starting in Texas and ending in Mississippi. It's called the U.S. Highway 80 Sale and it's been going on for years as a way to preserve the historic roadway and the towns along it.

Eugenia Allen considers herself to be the ultimate bargain shopper so when she heard about the Highway 80 sale, she gathered up her family and planned a road trip.

"We have a lot of fun doing things like this.  It's always fun and when you can include your family it's more fun," said Eugenia.

They started in Canton bright and early Friday morning and they've been driving along Highway 80 ever since.  "Someone else's trash is someone else's treasure," says Melba Kelscy, Eugenia's mother.

They simply pull over to shop and pull out to head to the next vendor.

"That's great that family's having fun today.  You can get so many good bargains today," said vendor Sunny Sellers.

"We just started looking for things that we liked to find, we made a list ahead of time," said Eugenia.

And she says until she gets everything on her list or reaches her budget of $1,200, she's prepared to go all the way to Mississippi.

Eugenia says, "They seem to be getting better as we get farther down the line.  You just never know what you're going to find."

And while Eugenia admits it's going to be a long weekend, she says lives for the hunt.  "Well, it's off the next stop and we're headed toward Mississippi."

The U.S. Highway 80 Sale continues Sunday, starting at 8:00 a.m.
