Side Attractions Big Hit At Yamboree

      The traditional fall festival brings visitors from all over the country to East Texas,  as the 69th annual East Texas Yamboree in Gilmer is underway. The festival offers something for everyone, with food, music, pageantry, livestock judging, and contests. With the Yamboree well underway, many come to see the unusual side attractions,  like the yam ag show, the yam pie eating contest, and the yam costume contest, where the yams are dressed in costume.

    "We like to visit and see new people , there are people that come form all over to be here" said Como visitor Steve Jones.

    "Well I was born and raised here in Gilmer and we've been around the yamboree all my life and I enjoy all the activities that go on" said Gilmer native Ike Fluellen.

       People come for the arts and crafts, carnival rides, food, or just to catch up with old friends.

     "I think that people come every year because it's a homecoming and I think they make time out of their year to came back and see people they went to school with and grew up with" said Joyce Raabe, one of the Yamboree organizers.

     Over 100-thousand visitors are expected at this years Yamboree.
