Update On Dog Dragging

Next week, the Van Zandt County Sheriff's Department could send it's evidence in a possible case of animal abuse to the District Attorney's office.

Nellie, a one year old chocolate lab, sustained severe injuries after being dragged down a county road behind a pick up truck. Then, she was left bleeding on the roadside, presumably to die.

Police say they are talking with two 17 year old suspects in the case. They could face felony charges if indicted.

There has been an outpouring of nationwide support, with many people wanting to help with Nellie's care.  She will be in the hospital for at least a couple of months.

Any left over donations will stay in a 'needy pet' fund to pay for animal care when people can not afford it.

Donations can be sent to:

Dr. Clifton Bradshaw
Lake Country Animal Clinic
1124 W. FM 564
Mineola, Texas 75773

Once Nellie has fully recovered, she will go home, permanently, with the woman who rescued her.
