Fire Kills Tyler Woman

Tyler's first fire fatality this year happened without the fire department being called out.   When the department did respond with EMS around 10:00 a.m., Wednesday morning, to a home on Buckingham plaza, the fire had extinguished itself.

Marri Wynn Watson, 78 was found alone just inside the front door of her home. It appears she was overcome by smoke. Investigators say she also had burn marks from trying to put out the fire.

"There's fire damage in the living room area, around the couch or chair," said Jeff Akin of the Tyler Fire Department. "There is substantial fire damage in that area, and there is smoke throughout the home, so that's an indication the fire was not a large flaming fire, but it was a smoldering type fire with a lot of dark smoke."

The fire started, and ended early this morning. The cause isn't known yet.

Molly Reuter, reporting.
