Van Carrying Smith County Inmates Crashes In Tyler

Smith County Sheriff's Deputies rushed tonight to secure West Gentry and Glenwood in Tyler, moments after a van from the jail crashed, with at least 8 inmates on board.

Sheriff J.B. Smith said tonight all of the inmates on the van have been taken to the hospital, as a precaution.

We're told the van was taking the inmates to Smith County's low-risk facility around 8 PM, when it was sideswiped by another car.

At the crash site, KLTV 7 saw several backboards lined up...and watched as at least one inmate was pulled from a side window of the van.

Deputies say all the inmates have been accounted for, and no one was seriously hurt.

ETMC seems to be where the inmates are being taken... We're told security has been beefed up there.. With several deputies on hand.

Officials tell us tonight that no one has been ticketed in the accident.
