KLTV Competes In Dancing With The Tyler Stars Contest

It's the night they've been preparing ten weeks for, a dance competition that features two of our own. KLTV 7 anchor Christine Nelson and meteorologist Stephen Parr put on their costumes and took part in the Dancing With the Tyler Stars contest. The event benefits Tyler AIDS Services.

One by one, the contestants were introduced Saturday night.   The ballroom was standing-room only. The lights were dimmed down low, and you could say the nerves were running high.

"I wasn't nervous until I got out on the floor and I could see people thinking, 'I don't think the weather boy can dance'," said Parr.

The competition consisted of two dances, the waltz and a swing dance.   "I think I'm more looking forward to the waltz quite frankly," said Parr. "I have a pulled hamstring and the swing dance tests that."

"I think I like swing better because it's a little faster and you can get into it," said Nelson.

So, what did the judges look for?  "Rhythm, making sure they're staying on beat, listening to the music, footwork, styling," said judge Elaine Hewlett.

Christine had a lot of style.  "It was just so much fun," said Nelson. "Something outside of what we do, the grind that we do everyday Monday through Friday and then you get to do this."

Stephen wasn't so bad either.  "Well, no one died," said Parr.

Win or lose, both Christine and Stephen say it's about having a good time for a good cause.

Christine took first place in the women's division and Stephen took first place in the men's. There was then a dance off between Christine and Stephen, and Christine came out as the champion. Congratulations to both of them.
