He's a bright young man, sure to make a family proud. His story is nothing short of miraculous. We introduce you to Johnny in KLTV 7's Gift of Love report.
Johnny enjoys being outdoors and looking at animals at Tyler's Caldwell Zoo. "Look at that Ring Tailed Lemur," says Johnny pointing.
"John is a happy go lucky fellow, doesn't want for much, easy to please," says his foster dad, Al Shaw.
This 13 year old is out going, polite and likes school. "I like math, science and history."
"He's just got a sweet spirit. He's a neat kid, real pleasant to be around," says Kim Rhodes with Child Protective Services.
Johnny has quit a story to tell. As an infant he had heart surgery. Then, another traumatic incident as a young boy. Shaw explains, "There was a family accident and Johnny was found in the water, so he was submerged for 8-9 minutes so he's actually a miracle child that he was saved."
The accident left him slightly delayed and he walks with a limp but it doesn't discourage him from his favorite activities; sports. "I like to play basketball, football, bowling and baseball," says Johnny.
Johnny has also had to deal with being removed from his home, placed in foster care 3 years ago. "I had to move three times. It was hard and this is the first time being apart from my sister."
Despite his challenges, Johnny takes pride in his accomplishments. He's proud of the badges earned in boy scouts.
He's hoping a new family will allow him some new experiences. "He talked about not having gone to six flags before. Everybody thinks of that as a small thing but for some of our kids it's a big deal," says Rhodes.
Johnny will do best as the youngest or only child in a family. He'll need extra attention and guidance. But most of all, he just needs to feel loved.
"I'm a good kid and stuff," says Johnny with a slight smile.
Shaw adds, "Just meet him. You know, you meet him and that's it. You fall in love with him."
