East Texas Teen Plays Piano For National Radio Program

An East Texas teenager is preparing to play in what he calls his Superbowl. Tomorrow night, 'From the Top', a national syndicated radio show will record for the first time here in East Texas. Today, KLTV visited with our local teen who is one out of five teens to be chosen to play for the recording.

15 year old Tyler McCuan of Troup has been playing the piano since he was 6 years old. Tomorrow's live recording will be heard by hundreds of thousands of people.

"For me it would be like going to the Superbowl," says Tyler.

Today, he practiced by playing a piece by Chopin.

"I like performing.  I've played in front of a lot of people before so that doesn't make me nervous.  What makes me nervous is wanting to do well.  The piece I will be playing on Thursday is Haydn's Sonata.  I practice about 8 or 9 times a day," says Tyler.

"Music is a wonderful way to express your feelings.  When you play the piece its good think about certain things for instance there is an old story when Chopin wrote this.    It helps to think things like that when to put it in the right mood," says Tyler.

"I love it, I can't image, I want it to be my life works," says Tyler.

Tyler hopes one day, his dream will come true in becoming a concert pianist.

'From the Top' live recording will be tomorrow at 7 PM at the Caldwell auditorium in Tyler. Tickets are still available, adults are $30 or $50 and students tickets are $5.
