Eastman Chemical Sells Three Plants

Eastman Chemical Company has announced its selling three manufacturing plants outside of Longview to Westlake Chemical Company. Right now, nearly 400 employees work at those plants. The company says around 250 of them will stay on as Eastman employees. However, the other 120 may be considered for potential employment by Westlake, but it's not guaranteed.

We asked Eastman officials if this means the more than 100 employees are being laid off and Mike Childress, Communications Manager with Eastman Chemical Company, says, "This is not anything different than what we've been faced with in the past. We phased out, modified, shut down businesses in the past, and we always try to redeploy those people in those units."

Eastman Chemical says they are working toward closing the deal with Westlake before the end of the year.
