Proud Of East Texas: Jacqueline Browning

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Jacqueline Browning Kay was diagnosed in 2002 with breast cancer while still in her 20s. As if fighting breast cancer wasn't devastating enough, Jacqueline's four-year-old son, J'Qualon, was killed in a dirt bike accident while riding with his father. Soon afterwards, Jacqueline's husband left her.

Jacqueline felt she couldn't go on. But with the help of some very special people in her life, Jacqueline found a strength she didn't know she possessed. Her Oncologist, Dr. Sasha Vukelja was a second mother to Jacqueline, as well as her doctor.

A long-time friend, Renault Kay, visited her at the hospital when she was at her very lowest. Although she had lost all her hair, eyebrows, and eyelashes from chemotherapy, Renault told her she was beautiful.

Jacqueline and Renault were married August 5th of this year. The wedding was totally in pink, the color of breast cancer survivors. Her dress, decorations, and even the cake were all pink, a color Jacqueline has come to love.

Jacqueline still mourns the death of her son, J'Qualon, but she celebrates his life and her survival.
