An East Texas YMCA is trying to get a big part of its identity back, but it needs help from the community. For about three and a half years, the pool at Tyler's YMCA has been closed because of structural concerns. This year, after several requests from the community, the YMCA decided to re-open the pool, but there's still a lot of work to be done, and about $150,000 more to be raised.
"It's an essential part of the YMCA," said Tyler YMCA CEO Stuart Gilpin. "A lot of Y's have pools. It's a major part of the program. A lot of people identify the pool with the YMCA, and also this is the only public, accessible indoor heated pool in Smith County, so it would be nice to get that re-opened."
No re-opening date has been set until the additional funds needed are raised. If you would like to help contact the YMCA.
