My inbox has been working overtime this past week, collecting more than one thousand passionate, humorous and thought-provoking emails from viewers like you. These letters were in response to a recent editorial, where I went out on a limb and took a stand against an ABC talk show host.
To some of you, it may have seemed a little radical, calling for Rosie O'Donnell's resignation on The View for her recent comment against the moral standards to which I personally hold in high regard. To others, you felt it necessary, as I do, to let ABC know that we have taken offense.
I want you to know that I received a call from ABC confirming that our voices have been heard.
I feel proud to live in a community where so many of you share a similar value system to mine. However - there were some who did not agree with me, and to those of you, I am proud too. Proud to live in a community - and a country - where we all have the right to take a stand.
So I want to take this time to address some points made by the opposing view.
Most of the complaints I've received argue that by calling for Rosie's termination, I am violating her freedom of speech. First, I'm not trying to violate her freedom to speak; I just want to make sure the opposing side is heard just as loudly. And second, even without her position on The View, she has many other outlets available to her to express her opinion. I simply don't appreciate her expressing it on this station without a fair and balanced opposing view.
My ultimate goal here, is to give viewers in my area an opportunity to express opinions, whether you agree with me or not.
Well, now you know there is someone on the inside who doesn't necessarily agree with the programmers at ANY of the national networks. Changing network programming is a long, hard-fought battle and you may not believe in my methods. But at least you know where I stand.
In the meantime, we've set up a link on our website for you to express concerns regarding network programming you find objectionable on this station. And I look forward to hearing from all of you. Because, together, we can make this a Better East Texas, in which we can all sit back and enjoy the view.
