United Steelworkers Ready To Strike

Goodyear now has two days to avoid a strike. Yesterday, The United Steelworkers announced they will strike Thursday unless they get a fair contract. The Goodyear plant in Tyler employs about a 1,000 people from United Steelworkers. Today, members from the local chapter spoke to KLTV about what they want to see from Goodyear.

"What we expect from Goodyear is a fair contract," said Bud Allred, Treasurer of United Steelworkers, #746L. "They want to dump our employees, retirement health care benefits and they also want the opportunity to cut this plant anytime they want, and we are not going to stand by them and let that happen."   The united Steelworkers in Tyler are among those in 12 plants that could go on strike. Goodyear has until noon on Thursday to come up with a new contract.
