Tyler Police Arrest Suspect They Believe Was Involved In Tyler Shootings

A follow-up on the shooting that killed two people and left two others critically injured, and the arrest of a man who could be responsible.   Just before 10 o'clock last night police arrested Korrenthian Baker, 28 of Tyler at the Southwest Pines Apartments located on Walton Road in Tyler.   Right now, police have only charged Baker with one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. They do say the charge could be upgraded to capitol murder.

This afternoon Baker was arrainged on one charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. That's for the shooting of Presley Williams, who remains in critical condition tonight. After the arrest, Tyler police gave some more details on the events that lead up to the shooting.

"Apparently there was a disturbance between the subjects at that resident and the suspect and apparently they ran him off earlier that night," said Officer Don Martin, Tyler Police Department. Investigators used witness information to link Baker to the shootings, including a match of his clothing to the alleged shooter.  Evidence was also found.

"We located a 9mm handgun that belonged to his brother that, I don't want to go into a lot of details on that right now, but believe that weapon was used at the residence," said Martin. "There was narcotics found at the residence. We don't know if the shooting was related to any drug activity or not." The news of Baker's arrest spread fast through the West Tyler neighborhood. Ida Ford lives right down the street from where the shooting took place and says she's never seen Baker or heard his name. She does know the people that live in the house, who were not injured.

"These boys at that place up there, I wave at them and they wave back, and I think they were real nice boys," said Ida Ford. "I believe they were innocent people, you know."   Police do say they don't believe there will be anymore arrests.   Baker is in the Smith County Jail with a bond of $1 million dollars.

The two severely wounded yesterday, George Douglas Cain, 38 and Presley Williams, 49 remain in critical condition tonight.
