Wal-Mart Brings More Than Low Prices To South Tyler

Tyler's new Wal-Mart on Troup Highway is bringing more than low prices to its South Tyler neighborhood. Those living nearby have called concerned about a traffic problem their seeing.

They say as long as the light at the intersection of Troup and Shiloh stays green, there's no problem.  However, when it turns red, you can see car after car making u-turns into an entrance which is meant for northbound traffic.

Don Martin with the Tyler Police Department says the maneuver is not illegal, but it's also not the safest way to get into the parking lot.

"If they make a u-turn, and there's no collisison, and they don't make anyone use their brakes, then it's fine.  If they come out and start driving in the northbound lane to get down to that area, then they're driving on the wrong side of the road, and they could be issued a citation," says Martin.

The left turn arrow at that intersection is only about 15 seconds long which is just enough time for four or five cars to get through.

The police department says its traffic division is looking at the light to see if it needs to be extended.
