East Texas Kids Enjoy The Fair In Tyler

Today marked the official opening of the 91st annual East Texas State Fair. There are lots of attractions going on at the fair: food, rides, livestock and exhibits.

As the gates were unlocked, the crowd was ready to enjoy a day at the fair. Some of the youngest fair-goers, such as Brittanie, 6, of Tyler, had her eyes on the rides.

"The wheel, the bears and the slides.  You can go around in circles and you can spin and then you go down the slide," said Brittanie.

But before making it to any of the rides, she made a quick stop for chips.  "I eat at the fair.  I play some games at the fair and I ride some rides at the fair. I do everything at the fair," said Brittanie.

For Andrew, 11, of Tyler, this is his first time at the East Texas State Fair, so their goal was to enjoy as many activities as they could. He and his mother checked out the different kinds of livestock.

"We saw some big cows," said Andrew.  They moved on to the pigs. Then it was time to buy tickets for the rides.

"I really want to do is the rides...  Indiana Jones.   I think it's a slide or an obstacle course," said Andrew.

While both Andrew and Brittanie enjoyed the spins, bumps and turns on the rides Lee Ann, 10, of Troup just got done showing her cow.  "The cow that I show, her name is Precious Moments.  She came from my sister's cow's baby and this is her first show and she is seven months old," said Lee Ann.

This is Lee Ann's second time to show a cow and got fourth place.  "I get pretty excited about coming just because of showing cows and riding rides," said Lee Ann.

The East Texas State Fair runs through the 30th of September at the Tyler Fair Grounds. Admission is $6 for adults, $2 for children, and free for those under 5 years old.
