The Wal-Mart discount store on Troup Highway in Tyler closed for good at 6 p.m. Tuesday night, being replaced by a Supercenter just down the street.
Some neighbors of that old store are happy it's gone. The reason is heavy traffic. Business owners and managers in a shopping center near the Wal-Mart say the high volume of cars has made getting their own customers in and out a problem. So for at least several months, the pressure's off.
John McElfish, owner of USA Flooring Outlet: "I think that depends largely on who moves into that building. Whether it'll be a chain that will pull some more business back in, I think it'll all depend on that. I think people are going to be real interested to see who moves into that building."
Traffic just down Troup Highway is bound to be more congested starting Wednesday. The massive new Supercenter opens at Troup and Shiloh at 7:30 a.m.
