Police Officer Awarded Bronze Star For Iraq Service

A Tyler police officer is honored for his service in Iraq -- honored with a Bronze Star.

Officer Matthew Leigeber is Maj. Leigeber in the Marine Corps Reserves.  His Bronze Star was awarded today in Tyler for his service as officer-in-charge for a regional detention facility in Ramadi. That's west of Baghdad in an area with many supporters of Saddam Hussein.

Leigeber says the success of their mission processing combat detainees was dependent solely on everyone working together as a team.

"The medal reaffirms what I already knew, and that was what a great job my Marines and sailors did over there in Iraq," Maj. Leigeber said.

"There's not a day that goes by that I don't think about them. I owe everything to them."

Liegeber says he would go back to Iraq again to help win the war on terror.  He says the fighting men and women there now are the most dedicated he's seen in his more than a decade of service.
