Daughters Of American Revolution Celebrate Constitution Week

This week is the 219th anniversary of the signing of the United States Constitution.   To celebrate, members of the Mary Tyler Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution held a luncheon.

Their special guest, Congressman Louie Gohmert, spoke about the importance of our Constitution. Gohmert had a special guest of his own, a member of the British Parliament who has been following Gohmert around the past couple of days.

"One of the interesting things is that although we have very different systems of government, your congressman representing East Texas and me representing Wimbledon, you know we actually have a real common interest," said Stephen Hammond, of Wimbledon, who serves in the House of Commons.

"It gives them a chance to see what we do and what makes us tick," said Gohmert. "I was really delighted that he could come to East Texas, see all of it and see what drives me."

This is Hammond's first trip to Texas. He says he's having a great time in East Texas.  He says the people are wonderful and the food is great.

At this time last year, a guy by the name of Dak Prescott was still on the draft board. In fact, the Mississippi State star didn't hear his named called until Saturday during the fourth round. Luckily for the Cowboys, Prescott turned out to be the hidden gem of the 2016 draft class. The NFL AP rookie of the year was in Longview Friday night for a fundraiser supporting the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Big Pines.
