Freshmen At UT Tyler Get New Residence Hall

Freshman at UT Tyler have some of the best accommodations in the state, and its affecting their success.   Today was the dedication of the first freshman residence hall on campus called the Ornelas Residence Hall. It's named after Louis and Joseph Z. Ornelas who made a significant contribution to the $12 million facility. Studies have shown that living on campus improves student's grades, graduation rates and their overall success. The new dorm has already had a positive impact on recruiting freshman to UT-Tyler.

"You're more involved being close to everything," said Nicolette Weil, Junior at UT Tyler. "Your more likely to participate and therefore you're going to be more involved in school and stay in school."   Each dorm room is fully furnished including a living room, three bedrooms and a private bathroom. And on the first floor is a top notch laundry room.   Some say its more than a residence hall, it's a place where students can dream about their potential and attain a successful future.
