Inmate Medical Services To Get Cheaper In Smith County

The monthly cost will be go up, but a new medical service contract will save Smith County money in the long run.

This year, the county will pay UT Tyler Health Center $500,000 dollars for pharmaceuticals for inmates and juvenile detainees.  The new contract with Correctional Healthcare Management will be a flat fee of $162,000 dollars which is a 67% savings.

The new contract will allow for many procedures to be done on site, so there will be fewer transports required.
