East Texas Drivers Praising Lower Gas Prices

Driving around Tyler, Tuesday, the lowest price we found for regular unleaded was $2.33 per gallon.  Later in the evening it dropped four more cents to $2.29 per gallon.

That's not too bad when you compare it to the state average of $2.47 per gallon, according to AAA.  Nationally, the average is $2.61.

A year ago the Texas average was $2.87 for regular unleaded, $0.54 cents lower than what folks were paying at the WalMart gas station on 69 north in Lindale.

For the most part, drivers were happy to see prices creeping lower and lower.

"It makes a big difference when you have to run around with your families. So yeah [lower gas prices] make a big difference but I hope it does help a little bit. I hope it stays that way," says Lindale resident Gail Moore.

"Now you have the freedom to do a few more things and usually that falls into the category of fun things, the extra things," says David Hooper of Lindale as he was filling up his motorcycle.

"I love the way it's going down! It's supposed to get down to $2.00/gallon I understand here shortly," says Hideaway Lake resident Glen Underwood.

Glen, who is 84-years-old, says he remembers a time in East Texas when gas was $0.09 per gallon.
