The sound of emergency sirens is something you did not hear in Tyler yesterday. The outdoor warning systems is tested on the first Tuesday of every month, but yesterday the sirens were not activated.
"We look at the weather to see if it's a sunny day like today, they will be activated. If it's cloudy if we have a potential of any type of weather they will not activate because we do not want anyone to misinterpret a potential tornado coming into the area, which is why they would be activated , that would be one of the reasons for it," says Officer Don Martin, Tyler Police Department.
The City of Tyler has 30 sirens located throughout the city. They have missed two out of the last three tests because one of the days fell on the 4th of July.
