Longview firefighters responded to seven grass fires, within a four-hour period on Friday. Investigators say the fires were set at various locations. Numerous fire engines and crews were called out to douse the fires. Officials say it had the potential for disaster as a number of fires were set around the city, keeping fire crews tied up for hours. Fire marshals believe young people are responsible for setting several of the blazes.
Officials say they used spray paint cans and cigarette lighters a kind of home-made fire bomb. Little damage was done, but investigators say fires during the dry conditions could have cost lives and the method used could have been deadly. Anyone with information is asked to call the Longview Fire Department.
