Fire crews from several different departments battled a massive fire in Rusk county. Five fire departments were called out to the fire about 3 this afternoon, around 6 miles south of Henderson. Perimeters were set up around 75 acres, burning on a tree plantation. Texas forestry service had to call in this helicopter to drop water while bulldozers cut fire brakes.
Firefighters got the fire under control in around 2 hours. No one was hurt. Investigators believe the fire was started by a cigarette thrown from a car. Drought conditions reportedly helped add fuel to the fire.
