Several Restaurants With Serious Violations, One Forced To Close

MERCADO MEXICAN CAFÉ at 2214 WSW Loop 323 in Tyler was inspected July 21.

Beans, chicken and sauce in cooler at 48 degrees; should be 41 degrees or below.

Onions at 104 degrees; should be 135 degrees or above.

Employee seen handling dirty, then clean dishes without washing hands.

Employee rinsed hands in sanitizer bucket, then handled foods.

Dish machine in bar not sanitizing.

Food contact surfaces needed cleaning.

Total demerits: 24.

On a recheck July 31,

Rice tested at 155 degrees; should have been reheated to 165 degrees.

Sink blocked.  Roaches, flies and gnats seen.

Total demerits: 14.  No recheck ordered.

  

TYLER SKATEPLEX at 7922 South Broadway in Tyler was inspected July 21.    

Hot dogs tested at 59 degrees; should be 41 degrees or below.

Inspector says nacho cheese sauce packages gnawed by rodents.

Numerous dead rodents, droppings and open containers of rat poison found throughout building.

Total demerits: 21.  Recheck ordered, but not yet on file.

 

MARGARITA'S at 1327 East Front in Tyler was inspected July 26.  

Items on steam line were not properly reheated to 165 degrees.

Employees seen handling tortilla chips with bare hands.

Hand sink blocked by a bucket, and other hand sink difficult to reach.

Chemical bottles not properly labeled.

Total demerits: 19.  No recheck ordered.

  

EL CHARRO #2 at 2623 East Fifth St. in Tyler was inspected August 23.  

Numerous foods cooked previous day found to be too warm, including hot sauce, beans and rice.  Food needed to be cooled to 41 degrees or below within four hours.

Enchiladas, chicken-fried steak, steak and onions tested from 109 to 120 degrees; should be 135 degrees or above.

Employee was seen handling dirty, then clean dishes without washing hands.

Total demerits: 17.

On a recheck August 25, improper hand washing procedures noted.

Total demerits: 8.  Additional recheck has been ordered, but not yet on file.

  

KFC at 2215 West Gentry in Tyler was inspected August 7.  

A roach infestation was noted, with dead roaches throughout the building.  Other items noted as contaminated.

Fountain drink machine "moldy."

Total demerits: 12.  Permit to serve food suspended.

Following pest control application, permit was reinstated the next day.
