Kilgore Bulldogs: Home of The Raggin' Red And D1 Recruits

Recruiters should probably set up shop in Kilgore because year after year the Bulldogs turn out division one athletes.

In fact, there have been 15 in the past four years. This year is no different.

One player to watch is creating a buzz almost as big as he is: Offensive lineman Michael Huey. He has already committed to play ball with the defending national champion Texas Longhorns after finishing his senior season with the Bulldogs.

There is also running back Jerek Sheffield. He had 1,830 yards rushing last season and has set his goal for 2,200 this season.

"It doesn't matter how many yards I get," Jerek said, "just as long we are winning football games, one by one."

"To have to a division one school to the best of their ability to give someone like me an offer to play for them, that's something real good to have," Michael said.

Kilgore will scrimmage last years class 3A Division II champion the Tatum Eagles. That game is Friday, August 25 at 7 pm at R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium.

The Bulldogs open the regular season on the road against Crockett, September 1.
