Spiritual Leaders Pray For Peace

A group of East Texas spiritual leaders and citizens gathered on the square in Tyler today.   They represented the Christian, Muslim and Jewish communities. More than 25 people listened, as they read a declaration of peace. They say, despite their differences, they all pray for peace in the Middle East.   Islamic spokesperson Anwar Kahlifa says he wants East Texans to realize the Muslim community is against all terrorism.

"I want people to understand no one is for terrorism, nobody that is peace loving is for terrorism," says Anwar Khalifa, spokesperson for East Texas Islamic Society.

"I think it will help a few heads to be lifted up and open a few eyes, clarify a few misconceptions," says Dr. Jeff Wilson, pastor at First Christian Church.

"We want to be apart of this community and contribute good for the community and want people to understand that," says Khalifa.

Khalifa says they plan to have a tour of the mosque and will answer the public's questions about their beliefs in October.
