Hundreds of new faces will be teaching at Tyler area schools at the start of the school year. Monday, the Tyler Chamber of Commerce hosted a welcome lunch for new teachers, many from schools in Tyler ISD, to private schools and colleges. "I'm pretty excited, kind of eager to see what happens," says new Stewart Middle School teacher Chace Woods about the new school year. "I have great expectations and hopes." Shannan Mills, new Literacy Facilitator at Austin Elementary adds, "This is a new decision for me so I'm doing something different. It will be nice working with the teachers." This year, TISD has hired 230 new teachers. The district says that number is about average.
