Hutchison Says Other Countries Must Help Stabilize Middle East

With the cease fire declared in the Middle East, Texas Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison says allies in the war on terror should be the first to step up for any U.N. peacekeeping duties in Lebanon.

Hutchison was in Tyler Monday for a campaign appearance as she's beginning the re-election battle against Democrat Barbara Ann Radnofsky.

Hutchison says American troops need to stay where they are, instead of deploying to the border zone between Israel and Lebanon.

"I do think an international force in the southern part of Lebanon is a good idea. They will have a U.N. insignia. But I would like to see America put our efforts into Iraq and Afghanistan where we know that we need to have troops there-- we need to have more troops there," Hutchison said.

Hutchison says she believes the strengthening of an anti-Hezbollah government in Lebanon will be key to any long-term hopes of peace in that part of the Middle East.
