Longview Holds City Dog Swim

In the blistering heat of August, the city Longview opened up its swimming pool for a day to dogs.  There was a whole lot of shaking going on at Longview swim center, as for one day dogs were allowed to swim in the city pool, in what was called the Dog Days of Summer Dog Swim.

"It's just neat watching them swim having a good time.  It's just fun," said Longview dog owner Maria Macdonald.

There were dogs of all sizes and shapes, some who couldn't wait to get to the water and others who needed encouragement.

"Well, we've done it every year and it's great for the dogs to socialize with other dogs.  He just loves doing it.  He loves the water he loves to swim," said Longview resident Ed Beck, who owns a 180-lbs. newfoundland named Rico.

The dogs were charged $3 dollars admittance.  Owners were free.  The dogs even got a free tennis ball. There was even a dog bathing suit competition.   For many it was a chance to let their hairy friends enjoy a cool dip. Owners brought around 100 dogs out for the swim today.
