Sacred Harp Convention In Henderson

More than 300 people attended an event that keeps an old tradition alive. The 151st annual East Texas Sacred Harp Singing Convention kicked off this morning at the Community Center in Henderson. The event features a songbook that is read through symbols instead of notes. The shape note system was invented in the 1700s.

It was used to teach the masses how to read music and sing, and it's been passed along to generations.  The convention continues at Henderson Community Center  tomorrow from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
