T.I.S.D. Proposes Tax Rate Decrease

T.I.S.D. is proposing a decrease in taxes for property owners and salary raises for all employees.  The drop would be a nickle for every $100 assessed. And teachers would see a pay increase of $3,500, making them the highest-paid in East Texas.

T.I.S.D. officials say this has been made possible because this year's expenses turned out to be lower than expected. "Our bond referendum that we were doing didn't cost as much as we originally expected so we were able to lower that tax rate but at the same time all of our teachers are getting an additional raise," said T.I.S.D. Public Relations representative Angela Jenkins.

For example, the tax bill on a home worth $100,000 would be $1,264.80. Last year's bill was $1,309.17. That's a decrease of $44.37.
