Terrell Owens has been sidelined with a sore left hamstring for the past three practices. Though he says it's no big deal, Coach Bill Parcells admits he wants some strong backup at receiver.

The Cowboys worked out another former Eagle receiver Sunday, Freddie Mitchell.

Mitchell did not play last season after four years in Philadelphia. He played one season alongside T.O.

The Cowboys took a free look at the veteran who had 90 career catches for more than 1,200 yards and five touchdowns in 63 games.

Parcells might be concerned with his depth at receiver and struggling offense but he is pleased with the defense. Part of that has to do with experience under his players belt now.

This is the second year Dallas is running Parcells' 3-4 defense. Players said it just took a little time.

"I think we are a lot more comfortable," said cornerback Terence Newman. "I mean you just see guys out there, how fast everybody's running around out there and not really thinking, just playing football now. I think being in the second year, it's definitely a boost."

"We could have had a big leap last year if we just didn't give up big plays," said safety Roy Williams. "We know what we have to do now. I mean we knew what we had to do last year but we are trying to be the aggressor instead of letting people run all over us."
