East Texas Native Turns 109 Years Old

When she was born William Mckinnley was president and the Spanish American War was about to start.   One hundred and nine years later, Lillie Taylor is alive to talk about it. Today, family and friends gathered in Tyler to celebrate Lillie's birthday. Lillie was born in Brownsboro and has lived in East Texas her entire life. She had ten children and she has more grandchildren than she can keep track of.

"I never would have thought I would live to be 109, but I made it through the help of the Lord, so I have to give him the praise of my being here," said Taylor.

When asked what her secret is to living so long, Lillie says she always tried to be kind and obedient.
