Football Career Over For Lindale Player Charged With Felony

DeMarcus Martin was being counted on to help lead Lindale into the 4A ranks for the first time.  The safety and receiver was going to start both ways, and maybe see action on special teams as a kick returner.  A college scholarship was more than likely waiting for him at the end of the season.  But all of that is a thing of the past now.

Martin is now in jail, facing a felony aggravated robbery charge for his alleged involvement in a home invasion that involved holding an elderly couple at gunpoint last night.

New Lindale head football coach Mike Meador, who is in Austin at the Texas High School Coaches Association coaches clinic, said Martin was an at-risk kid who had done a good job staying out of trouble.

"It's unfortunate for him," Meador said.  "When he was at school, he did good stuff.  When he leaves school, that's when the problems occur."

Martin was arrested along with his older brother Willie Martin, who Smith County Constable Dennis Taylor says has been a suspect in several crimes.

Meador says Martin was being looked at by several schools, and probably would have gotten a college scholarship somewhere.  Now, Meador says the schools code of conduct makes Martin's immediate future very clear.  His Lindale football career is over.
