East Texas Family Adopts Spot In Tyler To Clean Up

Some Tyler middle school students will have a nice surprise when they come back to school this fall.   The tunnel that runs under South Broadway in front of Hogg Middle School is being cleaned up, thanks to an East Texas family. The Thomas family are the first to adopt a spot to clean up, as part of the Keep Tyler Beautiful Campaign. They picked up trash, scraped the old paint and then repainted it.

"My son came home for Mother's Day, and we decided to take a walk through the tunnel since he had grown up here," said family member Sarah Coats. "He was born and raised here and neither one of us had gone through the tunnel, and when we walked through it, it was in really really bad shape, so we decided that's something that we could do to make a difference."

The Thomas family says they hope to eventually paint a mural in the tunnel.
