The Texas Veterans Land Board says it has benefits many vets don't realize they qualify for. The board is a state agency which offers loans for housing, home improvements, and land. It also gives veterans discounts at State Veterans Homes and State Veterans Cemeteries. You must meet certain requirements as a vet to qualify. Tito Garcia with the Texas Veterans Land Board explains, "90 cumulative days of active duty in the military, not be dishonorably discharged, and they have to have entered the military in the state of Texas." For those who entered the military from another state, you will have to have lived in Texas for at least a year to qualify.
For more information about these state benefits, the Texas Veterans Land Board is holding a seminar Tuesday, August 1st at the Holiday Inn Select on south Broadway in Tyler. Registration is at 6:30 in the evening. The seminar starts at 7:00 p.m. It's free to the public.
