The international Red Cross is appealing for more than 80 (m) million dollars in aid to help civilians caught in the Lebanese crossfire. The charity says the effects of the fight between Israel and Hezbollah militants make life "unbearably dangerous" for civilians. In addition, the group says access to water and basic services has been choked off. And medical evacuations and relief operations can't meet the population's needs. One executive with the International Committee says damage to the infrastructure and economy, together with a "large-scale displacement of civilians," requires an emergency response that will probably continue into next year.
