An East Texas neighborhood street may soon be closed to the public. The closing of Summit Drive in Longview is on the agenda for Thursday's City Council meeting.
Last September, council members voted to close the street, but there's been a delay for further action because some neighbors do not want increased property taxes, and the extra liability.
Others say it's a safety concern because drivers use Summit as a shortcut around Highway 80 and speed through the neighborhood.
W.D. Northcutt, a neighborhood resident says, "preserving the integrity of the neighborhood is very much the reason we asked to close the street, not only the security, but also the safety of the children."
One of the issues expected to be discussed is removing the liability on nearby residents.
