Stem cell research could save his life but a Kilgore man says he'd rather die from his disease rather than benefit from what he considers "morally wrong"! Nelson Swiger, 39, was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2001. The disease hampers his mobility and he suffers frequent fatigue. Because of his Christian faith and a belief in human dignity, Swiger hopes the research will never become a reality.
"My dream is to be a police officer, something I've always wanted to do real bad, and this could put me behind the wheel of a police car. But I tell you what I'd rather spend the rest of my life in a wheel chair than to do that," Swiger says.
If the research ever becomes a practice, he hopes no one will support or use it.
